Palaeoclimate Commission (PALCOMM)

Remit for the Palaeoclimate Commission, 2011-2015

Optimise use of palaeo-data for climatic reconstructions

  • spatial patterns
  • gradients
  • distinguishing local v. regional v. global climate signals
  • ‘teleconnections'

Develop active, strategic links with international palaeoclimate and climate research                 initiatives

e.g. PAGES, PMIP, IPCC

Foster active, strategic links with other commissions and more urgently with the                       Palaeoclimate and Palaeoecology/Human Evolution Commission

Ensure an adequate spread of palaeoclimate expertise and international networking capabilities within the Commission membership

Individual members will have specific responsibility for inter-connecting with e.g. marine research community, ice-core research community, groups working with GCMs and modern climate records, etc.

Ensure a wide geographical representation

Limit the size of the Commission to the number of members necessary to ‘manage' the             Commission's remit
